Creative Closet Hacks

“New year, new me.” If one of your resolutions was to declutter your closet, we’ve got some tips to help make your life a little easier. Organizing your closet shouldn’t be a headache. Take a look at some great closet hacks we’ve used ourselves.

Edit and Purge

This is the first step in closet organization. It’s time to get rid of items that are just taking up space. One tried and true method is, if you haven’t worn it in a year, donate or toss ‘em.  Once you’ve done the work to declutter, organizing won’t feel as daunting.

 Group Clothing by Category

It may seem easier to organize your closet by what you wear most often, but this actually makes pieces harder to find. Stick the like with the like. Pants together, shirts together, dresses together, and so on. If you’re feeling particularly ambitious, once those clothes are in their zones, arrange them by color. This’ll have your closet looking snazzy in no time.

Use a Ladder

Now this is one of my favorite hacks. Ladders are basically a more versatile version of a belt rack. Use it for scarves, ties, belts, the list goes on. I use a ladder to hang worn-but-not-dirty-yet shirts and pants. I suggest leaving it in the bedroom, especially if you’re tight on closet space.

Use Drawers and Drawer Insert

Everything has a place. And if you’re maximizing space using drawers or drawer inserts, it makes finding the “place” a lot easier. It’s also a cost effective way to store everything from intimates, to scarves, to your favorite socks.

Try a Garment Rack

Fashionable, yet functional, garment racks give you added storage space outside your closet. Hang coats, pants, scarves, belts, and just about anything else you can think of. Added bonus, the bottom shelf is a great place to store shoes.
